Flu Vaccinations are covered by Alberta Health Services with a valid Alberta Healthcare number.
The flu (also called influenza) spreads easily from one person to another and is a concern everywhere. A vaccine is available each year; talk to your pharmacist or doctor about getting a flu shot. We can administer flu shots at our pharmacy in Canmore.
Facts about the flu, at home and away:
- The flu is caused by a flu virus.
- The virus spreads in “droplets” when you sneeze, cough, and talk.
- Unwashed hands spread the virus to your mouth, eyes, or nose when you touch them.
- The flu can be more dangerous for children, the elderly, and those with health conditions.

Tips to lower your chances of getting the flu:
- Protect yourself with the vaccine each year.
- Follow the steps for proper hand washing with soap and water.
- Cough or sneeze into a clean tissue, or cover your mouth and nose with your elbow.
- Keep your distance from people you know are sick with the flu.
- Clean shared surfaces with disinfecting wipes regularly.
- Shared surfaces include doorknobs, telephones, grocery cart handles.
